Patient Account Specialist I–Collections Clerk 

Patient Account Specialist I–Collections Clerk 

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position. Days and hours are Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, start time no earlier than 7am with a 30-minute lunch break and two company-paid breaks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Conducts account activity on final billed claims by contacting government agencies, third party payers, and patients/guarantors via phone, email or online.

2. Timely follow-ups on all accounts assigned in automated work list per established procedures until account is resolved, sent to legal, or diputed. 

3. Maintains inventory in assigned work queue by clinic with no backlog.

4. Ensures proper account documentation which is clear, concise and includes all pertinent information.

5. Makes daily calls and/or website checks to payers to obtain payment resolution and account status information.

6. Consistently follows established processes and procedures for all assigned accounts and projects to ensure prompt payments and account resolutions.

7. Immediately and appropriately escalates payer trends and issues to management which impact cash, aging, and processes.

8. Maintains or exceeds 95% of established productivity goals and quality standards.

9. Follows and maintains patient, account and client confidentiality at all times. Adheres to HIPAA and Compliance Policy Guidelines.

Educational Requirements: HIgh School or GED, Customer Service Experience, Knowledge of Commercial, Third Party Insurance Accounts including but not limited to Medicaid, Managed Care, HMO, PPO, Auto and Work Comp. Education Preferred: Healthcare experience, 6 months of medical field collections experience and/or college level course work in the medical field with medical technology, Rules & Guidelines 

Essential Skills: Excellent Customer Service Skills including phone skills, Excellent written and verbal skills, Basic computer knowledge,  Microsoft Word and Excel preferred. Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions through the use of critical thinking. Ability to organize and prioritize with attention to detail accurately and expediency. Good decision making skills and ability to maintain confidentaility.
